This depends on many factors, e.g. the amount of items you buy/sell, and how this impacts the amount of new items you will buy. However making one shirt takes 2700 liters of water, just to give you an idea of what goes into producing our clothes.
What know for sure is that fashion is one of the most polluting industries on earth. The production and distribution of fashion contributes to a.o. water, air and soil pollution and the fashion industry is responsible for 10 percent of the carbon footprint of the world. Not to mention the cheap labour that is being used to lower the price.
The main factor here is the overproduction of fashion items. And guess who is responsible for the high demand here? Indeed, we are. As consumers, we are currently buying three times more clothing than we did 50 years ago.
Once our pre-loved fashion gets thrown away, it ends up in landfills where it continues to pollute the environment (by leaching chemicals into the ground).
We at Closit want you to enjoy pre-loved fashion items, while saving money and helping the environment at the same time. Our mission is to change the way the fashion world operates, and you can help us do this.
